NUTRITIONAL AWARENESS FOR ATHLETES

Athletic performance is a combination of many, diverse ingredients. We believe that each person is unique, and thus requires individual physical attention. While Formula One racing cars receive the same fuel to operate their engines to full performance levels, human athletes cannot expect to reach maximum efficiency by being fuelled with the same mixture of nutritional ingredients.

HOLISTIC NUTRITION & BODY-TYPE ASSESSMENTS

Our program is built to enable athletes (accomplished professionals and developing youths) to maximize preparation, performance, and recovery through personalized plant-based nutritional guidance in accordance with individual body type. Yoga and nutrition are building blocks toward taking greater control over personal health and, therefore, athletic performance.

Our program combines the fundamentals of Ayurveda and plant-based nutrition to offer personalised body-type assessments. This information then translates into an individualised nutritional plan, which strives to achieve optimal dietary balance for each athlete according to individual inherent strengths and weaknesses. Yoga and meditation are incorporated in this program in order to ensure both the physical and mental balance that is needed in sports.

Nutritional awareness offers a set of keys to an athlete who is in search of opening doors that will lead to increased health and stronger performances. Through a greater understanding of the function of foods within the human body, an athlete can make daily choices that will not only prevent illness, but will also minimise the negative impact (short and long term) that his or her sport may have on the body through overuse, injury, or chronic inflammation.

YOUNG ATHLETES: BUILDING A NUTRITIONAL FOUNDATION

Young athletes follow the examples of their icons. Training methods, sporting goals and achievements, choice of equipment – these are all a part of the formation of a young athlete. While there has traditionally been a strong, if not exclusive, emphasis on success in competition, it is becoming increasingly necessary to equip young athletes with a more comprehensive set of tools, which can be used to make appropriate, independent life decisions.

Nutritional choices are one of the fundamental choices that an individual can make; what does one put into his or her body? It is thus crucial to offer such an education to developing athletes. The food choices that are made as teenagers can create a map of what future food intake habits will become. Of course, this map can be changed; however, re-education is more difficult than education.

Young athletes must be made aware of the responsibility that they have toward their own changing bodies. Performance, wellbeing, self-esteem, and general health are all necessary elements in the education of an up-and-coming athlete. The choice of what one puts into one’s body belongs to each individual. Educated, thoughtful behaviour with regard to food is a foundation that can stretch far beyond athletic achievement; it is a building block toward an overall healthier life.

Indoctrinating young athletes into a thought process of conscious nutritional choices will allow them to maximise their athletic potential. Nutritional education also offers these young athletes a clear roadmap toward health, disease prevention, and overall wellbeing, within or beyond a sport context. Develop the person and the athlete will blossom.

PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES: PERSONALISED NUTRITION & EDUCATION

Our plant-based nutritional awareness program for professional athletes is based around the straightforward principle of favouring prevention over cure. Each individual is comprised of a specifically unique set of requirements for optimal health and resulting optimal sporting performance. The fuel that one puts into his or her body will have a direct impact upon the efficiency with which one can maximise the body’s capacities. The training, competition, and recovery phases of an athlete’s routine require different nutritional input.

Pain and injury are also an unfortunate reality for most professional athletes. Pre-empting illness and inflammation, by reinforcing the body’s inherent mechanisms, is a crucial element to successful performance. Less vital energy is expended in order to keep the body healthy; nutritional intake allows for maximum efficiency toward the physical goals that each athlete sets toward performance in competition.
